The Blacksmith's Son by Michael G. Manning
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Good comments first: I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and do look forward to reading the rest of the series (Book 5 is due to be published very soon). I found myself laughing out loud on many occasions at the snarky comments being made, as well as totally engrossed in the final happenings at the castle ball in the last chapter. As soon Book 1 was finished, I bought the next three books which have been published. Book 5 is due out soon.
That said, I found that the writing style of this particular book varies between 1st and 3rd person, sometimes from one paragraph to the next within the same chapter, which makes it rather odd to read. Additionally, the Kindle version could use better proofreading as I came across more than a few words left out/repeated. If you are able to forgive these two points, "Mageborn: The Blacksmith's Son" is an entertaining read" :)
